Every month we have visits from a variety of social workers. Each child or sibling group has their own social worker, and our family has a separate one from our agency. They have to check on the kids in our home once a month. Then there are the lawyers and the CASAs...
Our family services provider just left. It got me thinking about how hard it is, for me anyway, to answer them each time they say, "tell me about __________."
I am more than able to describe each of my children. The hard part is describing each of them every single month and thinking of something different to say each time. Yes, they are growing and developing, but that doesn't mean I have major changes to report each and every month. I always find it hardest with the young babies. He's a baby. He lays there, coos, smiles, eats, and sleeps. I have to report that to various social workers and also fill out status reports to turn in. How do I make that sound glowing and new?
The verbal and written reports are really easy to expand upon when there are major issues all the time. Trust me. We've been there. When things are going pretty smoothly with everyone, and no one is in a huge developmental spurt, I run out of things to say by the 10th and 12th month of caring for them.
