Our Week in Fostering
Last Wednesday: Mini-Moose was picked up at 5am to live with her great-grandparents after being here for 3 months.
Last Thursday: Flower (the baby pictured above) moved in, age 7 months.
This Thursday: Got a call at 4:25pm that the lawyers had mediation and that Flower would be going to live with her dad the very next day.
This Thursday: 4:28pm got an email followed by an immediate call about two little boys (pictured above) who may be entering care.
This Thursday: 4:31pm got a call that the boys were definitely entering care and would be placed with us.
This Thursday: 6:25pm boys arrived, ages 2 and 3.
This Friday: 12pm Flower was picked up to go live with her dad.
That is a lot of changes in one week, especially when we had 4 placements for a full year and had no changes that whole time, and, 15 months later, still have 3 of those 4. This is more how foster care usually is, though, I suppose. These boys are expected to be a long term placement, but you just never know.
I am on the fence about the whole baby thing. I LOVE having a baby in my arms, and Flower was so precious. Babies are a lot of work, though. They play with different toys. They eat different foods. They interrupt my sleep-often. They take a lot of...gear. They don't do puzzle time when it's puzzle time and may even demand to be fed when the schedule says that I am supposed to be doing circle time with the other kids. This baby was as happy as can be, but she definitely wanted to be held all the time.
I packed up all the baby stuff when she was taking her last nap here because baby gear starts to take over quickly. Of course, we will say yes if we are asked to take another baby. I'm just on the fence about whether I hope for another one or hope not to have another one.
In case you're trying to figure out how many kids we have right now (I have to do that math quite a bit myself), these are the ages of our current 7 kids: 14, 9, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1. Yes, we have 4 toddler boys and 1 toddler girl. I sure love the sanity my big kids bring!
