NYC, Day 1

Brishen and I arrived in New York City today right as it got dark.  I can't upload pictures until I get home, but I'll share some notes:

1.  We are staying at this hotel:  Renaissance Times Square thanks to my bro-in-law, Joe.  When we turned the corner toward Times Square, the world lit up.  It is the brightest, busiest sight I have seen!

2.  Our shuttle van driver gave us a true NYC experience with his driving.  It was very scary.  We drove through Queens, and saw Grand Central Station along the way.

3.  Why is it that everything I see in NYC reminds me of a Seinfeld episode?

4.  Brishen and I walked and walked down 7th Avenue.  I think we covered about 20 blocks straight before we decided to head back.  We saw Madison Square Garden, Macy's (of Thanksgiving Day Parade fame), Toys R Us with a full ferris wheel inside, Broadway theaters, and people everywhere.  It drizzled on us for a while, and someone was actually selling umbrellas on the street (Seinfeld reminder again).  We ate at a middle eastern vegetarian place where we stood at a bar at the window watching all the people pass by in the rain.

5.  It is crazy how busy Times Square is at 10pm!!  It doesn't seem dark because of all the lights, so it doesn't seem late at all.  The sky seems so far away with all the surrounding sky scrapers.

6.  I am very much a country girl in awe of all the sights in the big city!

Just getting to our hotel

Busy Times Square

We stayed only a block from Broadway.

We are easily amused.

There were people dressed as all sorts of characters in Times Square.  They wanted you to take pictures with them and then would ask for money after the fact.  I took this one to impress my little boys.

The Thanksgiving Parade at Macy's is only a month away.

Madison Square Garden

This is Times Square at 10:30pm.  It is so bright that it looks like daytime, and the streets were full of people until the wee hours of the morning.

When we went to NYC waaaayyy back when we were working doing wilderness survival with the at-risk teens. We'd pulled a double shift so we'd been in the woods away from society for 2 solid weeks, then came home, packed, and were in NYC the next day. It made me physically ill going from the woods to NYC! I felt like I was having one long panic attack the entire time we were there! I know we had fun, but the only thing I really remember (you know my memory!) is it being SO busy and SO loud and everything was always in motion! I couldn't wait to get back to the woods!!

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
