My friend, Timber, who is the queen of all those things that I no longer do (baking bread, baking in general, cloth diapering, etc.) organized gingerbread house making for area homeschoolers. Last year she held the event at my house. This year we decided the church would be a better place. Thank goodness! There were TONS of people there (it's true that her family and mine constitute tons all by ourselves, but there were tons more people there, too!). Everyone brought graham crackers and accessories to share. Timber brought loads of icing and cardboard bases. My kids had a blast!
Above is Thing 2's. I brought two caregivers with me to make sure all the kids had some help. It's possible that Thing 2 had a little help from someone much more creative than I am! Below is Thing 1's. Man did he enjoy eating that border! "Oops, it broke off! I better eat it!"
I sort of helped Wee One build a little house that you see above. Yes, it's a sad excuse for a house, but I knew I better throw something together for him quickly so that he would not be left out when the kids decided to eat their houses. Wee One spent every minute of the event eating graham crackers and any candy he could reach. I have picture after picture of his cheeks puffy and eyes glowing. The one below is Zade's. You would be pleased to know that his gingerbread house had it's own potty. Even gingerbread guys have to go, ya know?
Basia's is above, and Brishen's is below. I think they both could have worked on theirs for days to get them just right.
Other views of Brishen's. He thought adding any candy to his house at all would make it look less perfect, so he added lots of candy to the landscape.
The whole neighborhood as it looked before the kids got their grubby paws on it. Below is another view of Basia's.
I'm pretty sure my kids are fans of this Christmas season!
