My Twins

The current make-up of my family happens to have created some sets of artificial twins (or quads or quints or something).  The two pictured above are 4 months apart.  I then have two 3-year-olds who are 4 months apart.  I have two 4-year-olds who are 2 months apart.  The youngest 4-year-old and the oldest 3-year-old are 6 months apart.  Confused yet?  Let's just say that I have a lot of kids close in age.  And then there's the baby who is 17 months younger than the next youngest.  And then there are my older two who are 6 and 11 years older than this new batch of kids.  I spent so long with that wide age gap between kids (5 years to the month between B and B), that I find this artificial twinning to be quite interesting.

The "twins" pictured above are the most interesting.  The younger one came to us with global developmental delays, but the older of the two has been a good  (and bad) teacher.  Sir Smiles sure is making strides at catching up to Wee One.  Now they are their own little gang of two, and it is a scary gang.  They take full advantage of times when I am trying to feed a hungry baby or hold a sleeping baby or cook or do dishes or teach Basia or am occupied in any way.  They work together to bust out of gates and doors at record speed.  I have literally seen Sir Smiles lay on a stool so that Wee One could stand on him a bit higher to reach the TV.  They hit and push each other all.the.time.  I am only relieved that they each hold their own with the other.  Biting has happened on both ends, and I'm afraid we may see a lot more of it.  They keep me running all morning long, so I forget how easy and quiet life is now that the four middles are in preschool.

I do hope that, in time, they will be best buddies and not just partners in crime.  I hope that the push downs will turn into helping hands if they are together long enough.  Until then, they will keep me amused and running and wondering constantly how natural twins act at this age.
