There are lots of times when I have no specific blog topic in mind and just want to ramble a bit. I hate trying to think of titles for those sorts of posts!
1. Soren: Why do people run and exercise all the time?
Mom: Because they want to be healthy and strong! Running and exercise are great!
Soren: My teacher likes to run and exercise all the time!
Mom: That is great. She is being healthy and strong!
Soren: Actually, she doesn't like to run and exercise. She just sits on the bench and eats a snack.
(I don't think I'll share this with his teacher.)
2. The baby is feeling better today. I am pretty sure he has double ear infections, but his fever is down, and he was somewhat less miserable. He has refused to nap and will likely insist on being held all night, but it's still an improvement.
3. Zade has his psych evaluation tomorrow afternoon. I'm guessing it will consist of me filling out tons of paperwork and not much else, but we will see. He had lots of good days this week and one really bad one (my birthday). I still don't know how to allow him to have a really bad day without letting it ruin my day or completely dominate the family environment with drama. I want to be a mom full of grace. It gets tough the 874th time in one morning, though. I don't know what I want out of psych evals and blood tests. I guess I just want to be on the path to making sure we do what is right for him in the years to come. I want to have an understanding (if possible) of what goes on in his little head. I want to help him if he is hurting.
4. I did get confirmation from Zade's doctor that homeschooling is the very best choice for him. I just sensed it was the right choice for him, and his doctor told me to try to homeschool him for as long as possible. I'm glad we are on the same page.
5. Brishen brag: his physics teacher asks him to take his tests before the other kids in his class to test the system and watch for mistakes in the test. She emailed him today that he took his last test in 27 minutes when not one other classmate finished in under an hour. I think physics is his favorite subject from his schooling other than his math classes.
6. Tomorrow is the drop off day for the Southern NM State Fair. Timber, where are you??? Basia will be entering a painting and her set of sibling placemats. Jon picked some pomegranates tonight, and I swear that one is state fair worthy. He says there are plenty more like it on the tree. We may enter them in the fair. We didn't do anything special to make it big and beautiful, but it's in our yard so we get credit, right?
7. I worked on reading with Cassia for a short time today. That girl is going to be super easy to teach! If I had planned out some lessons, she would probably already be reading.
8. That 4am wake up goal? That was funny!
9. I just finished a biography on Susanna Wesley. It was so good to read about her life and the raising of her family. I knew long ago that she had 19 children and that she taught each one to read in one day as soon as they turned 5. I now know that she also had servants to do her cooking and cleaning and dressing and bathing and nursing of her children. She also only (sooooo glad I live in the current era!) had 10 children survive past infancy. I cannot imagine burying child after child and remaining strong. As a young lady she wanted God to use her in big ways. She later found that God's big way of using her was to love and educate her children so they could grow to do big things and change the world. She is such a wonderful example for me, and I loved reading the good and the bad. I need to hear how those I admire struggled, too. My favorite part of reading this bio was learning facts about the Wesley family that Jon didn't know!
10. My grandma is not doing well. I wrote in my prayer journal a list of all the happy memories I had from my times with her long ago. I will have to blog that list before too long.
11. I'm blogging all these random, fairly uninteresting tidbits because I love reading books and biographies that include day-to-day snippets from journals. Maybe someone someday will find it cute that Great Granny Mel kept a blog like this. Maybe she will quote me in some great book she writes about the good ol' days. When you read this in the future, know that your great granny loves you!
