It was a regular sort of moment. I was quizzing Brishen and Basia on their daily memory work. We got to the Ancient Greece poems that Brishen memorized so very many years ago. I love that he still knows the simple poems and doesn't balk at reciting them for me. Then I started thinking.
When will I teach ancient history again?
When Cassia and Soren are in 1st grade.
Will Brishen still be here?
Yes, it will be his last year at home.
His last year at home. That's hard enough to think about. Then I thought of what a beautiful full circle that will be.
Brishen and I spent so many hours and days and years studying all things ancient history. It was his passion for so long. I will get to teach it again to eager little learners his last year in the house. I have absolutely no doubt that it will be loved again, just like it was loved by Brishen and then Basia. It will be hard to wait through the kindergarten year before starting to teach history, but I will because it will be so perfect.
They will run to their big 18-year-old brother with the fun new things they are learning about Egyptian pharaohs and Greek gods, and he will smile and nod and act like it is all new and exciting to him, too. It will be exciting to him, and he will add bits and pieces of interest that I have forgotten to add, and they will love it. And he will love it. And I will love it.
And already I cry.
