Challenge!!

Here it is: I challenge you to start training this week to do a half-marathon with me in Albuquerque on August 31!

http://www.newmexicomarathon.org/races/marathon.htm

So far I have a friend in Albuquerque doing it with me, my mom doing it with me, and even Jon has agreed to do it with me! If we can all do it, I know lots of you can, too. A fourteen week training schedule would have you ready just in time. Here is an easy one that Jon is going to follow (he's on his first 3-mile walk right now):

Remember that you can switch up days for the walks if that schedule doesn't work for you. I always have to do my longer walks on Friday and Saturday and take Sunday as a rest day, since that fits my schedule. Plus, if you are like me and don't cross train, you can just add more easy walks into those days.

Here are some more training schedules to choose from. Some are shorter than 14 weeks, in case you need another week or so to get yourself geared up.

I am a walker, but runners are welcome, too (we'll see you much later at the finish line!). You can search online for training schedules more specific to runners.

For those in Las Cruces, we can meet at my house to do some of the longer walks together as the weeks progress. We can also carpool to Albuquerque and share hotel rooms the night before the race.

OK, now who is brave enough to join us? Email me mdavesmoore@yahoo.com or let me know here! Jon is sending out a special challenge to his sister, Jeanne.
