All the Colors of the Rainbow, Finally

First of all, you may have guessed that when you homeschool there isn't really always a clear delineation as to what is school and what is regular family stuff. This post could have gone on either blog. Now sadly I'm not the kind of mom who often colors with her children. I provide the opportunity for them to color all the time. Brishen has a big pile of fancy coloring books with various histororical topics from different time periods. Basia's still in preschool, so I still have it pounded into my head from the few preschool education classes and trainings I have attended that blank paper is much better than anything with lines, so I always have plenty of paper around for her to use.

I did finally sit down and color with her recently, and I realized that I should have done that long ago. We have a craft drawer with tons of crayons in it, and we have another with markers and another with colored pencils (always Brishen's pick). I felt the kids were adequately supplied in that area. When I was coloring with Basia, I realized that, although the crayon drawer was full, all the colors were repeats of the same 24 colors. Who can color a beautiful picture without colors such as burnt sienna, green yellow, yellow green, shocking pink, and peach? I resolved this oversight yesterday and bought a big ol' box of 96 colors. Basia was most excited about the glittery colors she found. She also thought the color names were fun. Brishen is most excited to try out the sharpener on the back. I let him know that he'll be disappointed.
