It's hard to believe that it is that time of year again already, but our church has been gathering school supplies to give to the children who attend our bilingual story time. Brishen, Basia, and I and another church family sorted through the supplies on Sunday and started handing them out today. Its funny that both our family and the other church family are homeschoolers, so we are just a wee bit thankful that those long lists of required school supplies don't actually apply to us. This year, I am looking for sales on glue and maybe a big box of crayons for our own family. Other than that, we won't be needing bags full of supplies or new clothes for back-to-school time. I do really feel for the families who see those long lists and wonder how on earth they will ever be able to afford all of that for each of their children. We are able to do so little, but I do hope it helps.

Here is Basia this morning. Ever since she was a baby, she has needed occasional "sleep-it-off" days to cope when life has gotten too busy. When she a few months old, I once called the doctor because I put her down for a nap at 4:30 and she slept straight through the night and on through some of the morning. The doctor told me that she just needed some extra sleep. Since that time, she has had a day every three or four months when she is nearly impossible to wake before 11am. Most mornings she is bright eyed by 6:30 or 7. This morning it was important that we go to church to give out school supplies, so I kept trying to get her to wake up. I dressed her, and she was back asleep immediately. I even did her hair without waking her. Jon ended up staying home with her while Brishen and I went to church. Sure enough, she was awake at around 10:30 and acting like nothing happened.

Did you get to practice your Spanish?
I did use those helpful phrases you gave me. The danger in that, though, is that people thought I actually could speak the language until I greeted their questions with a blank stare. That is when they would get one of their kids to translate for me, the slow one.
