Aw, Nuts!

We have a lovely pecan tree in our back yard that yielded a ton of pecans last year. As the pecans first started falling from the tree, everyone was gung ho about shelling them. Jon would sit around at night, shelling pecans in front of the TV. Fast forward several months. We have a large grocery bag half full of unshelled pecans. I have recipes that need pecans. I have (sweetly) asked Jon to shell me some pecans several times to no avail. I have shelled quite a few myself only when I became desperate.

This week I tried a new tactic to get these pecans shelled. I really want to make some trail mix, and I know that it would be a lot less expensive if I use nuts that fell from my own tree. I offered Brishen $1 for every cup of pecans he shells for me. He got started yesterday morning, and he was quite excited for his payday. The above picture shows how far he got. I don't think he'll ever see his first dollar, and I don't think I'll ever have shelled pecans. Just think, f you ever need to put a fourth of a gallon of gas in your car, I know where you can make a buck!

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
