Lots of Talking

I thought I would explain a little about how the dynamics work in my family, as far as talking goes.  First I will say the Moore family does a lot of talking.  I know that is shocking to many of you, but it is true.  I will also say that I am the one who does the least amount of talking.  I like to listen.  I like to be quiet.  I like to think.

In fact, last night I had to get away for a few hours because I was going clinically insane from children (and sometimes even their father) following me from room to room talking to me all day, every day, for weeks now.  I don't know El Paso well enough yet to know where to go to "get away" so I really hadn't had much time away from the kids since our move three weeks ago.  It was time!

What I have recently noticed is that Brishen does most of the regular talking throughout the day, at home and away.  If we are driving somewhere, he talks the entire drive. Brishen's talk often recounts facts from books he has read.  He will also talk for hours about a video game he is playing or something he saw on TV.  He really never runs out of things to say.   So many people think he is a very quiet boy, but they have not seen him at home.  That boy can talk!

Just in case you are feeling bad for little Basia, I want to let you know that she has found the perfect time to get her word count up pretty high, too.  Dinner time.  Oh, my goodness!  It is like she feels that she is on stage with a captive audience.  Brishen really likes to eat at dinner, so he is usually pretty quiet.  Basia, however, much prefers the social aspect of dinner over any food I might serve.  So she talks.  And talks.  And talks.  And talks.  Her food gets cold.  We all get really sick of minding our manners and waiting to get up from the table until she is finished.  She is always in her very best mood of the day when we are eating dinner as a family, and she is able to talk to us all.  It is endearing but a wee bit tiring, as well.

Now you know why I still have a time every single afternoon when my children are each in their separate rooms, reading or sleeping.  It is the only quiet time I get during the entire day.  Of course, the dogs are still following me around, but they tend to do a little less talking.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
