Museum of Art

Picasso is only here for one more day, so we decided we better not miss him.  Even my littlest kids can recognize The Three Musicians painting by Picasso.  I kept a couple kids up from their naps, and we made a go of the art musuem.

Two or possibly three of the above children are most likely hoping to stay far away from art museums for quite some time.  They have been to the children's museum in town quite a bit, so they had it in their minds that museums are places to play and physically explore.  This time they even got in trouble for touching the walls.  Soren was fully miserable and didn't even appreciate missing a nap for this adventure.  Zade was better and thought he'd like to have a birthday party there some time until he realized that there are more and more and more rooms full of pictures.  I'm pretty sure he changed his mind.

I even tried to interest the boys by pointing out the blood, guts, and death in the pictures.  Soren's favorite was the one above.  Zade liked one with apples, of course.  Soren is an artist.  They had art supplies and comfy chairs in the room with the Picasso and Cezanne paintings.  Zade, Soren, and Basia drew their own still lifes (what is plural of still life??).  I though Soren was particularly inspired because he asked if he could also draw on the back of his paper.  I later learned that he had drawn a Ninja Turtle fight with a bad guy and nothing from the bowl of fruit in front of him.  OK, so he's a different kind of artist.

We did it, though.  We made it to the exhibit before it left town.  I brought little kids to an art museum.  I enjoyed it, and Brishen enjoyed it.  Basia got to learn about circumcision from some paintings.  Zade didn't get us kicked out when he crawled under one of the benches.  Soren didn't get kicked out when he kept forgetting not to touch the walls.  I'll call this a success.  One small step toward a life where we can do normal things outside our home that don't include fast food play areas.
